Introduction

What is MyServer?  Well, MyServer is a virtual private file server service for small Businesses who need a file server to connect remote users at different geographic locations together in which to access joint working files.  This saves a company from the issues of where to locate their own server and securing "links" into that server over expensive communication lines.  MyServer is a direct alternative to Microsoft Small Business Server but without the expensive license issues.  We actually offer more by bundling together a number of technologies based around Linux as follows:-
  • Free Secure Encrypted VPN (virtual private network) links
  • File sharing
  • Support for any number of users [not MyServer Lite]
  • Mapping of drive letters
  • Private Databases (MySQL)
  • Software can read data into/out of any application
  • No changes needed to any bespoke software you may have
  • Website hosting
  • Email hosting (including mail groups and webmail)
  • EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) with trading partners [not MyServer Lite]
  • Automatic back up of your data

Your data files will be held on our own data centre which is located in the centre of Manchester, England and within that data centre there are multiple servers and multiple links into the data centre to ensure a minimum of any loss of service due to computer faults.  We manage the data centre ourselves, and we are approachable in which to discuss any special technical needs you may have.

All this allows us to offer a specialised service to the small business community that has the following benefits:-

  • Flexible to your growing needs
  • Scaleable as your Business grows
  • Free dedicated server technical advice
  • Cost effective flat rate per user tariff
  • Two versions available, single user "MyServer Lite" and multi user "MyServer"

Note: Some VPN functions of MyServer are not available to Microsoft Windows Vista Home edition users as Microsoft have deliberately cut down some network and security functionality of Vista in Home edition.  We recommend Vista users to use Business edition or above.
